Who is Saiki Daisuke?

Saiki is the nephew of the Seal Aoki Seiichirou. He serves Hinoto, the dreamseer beneath the Diet Building, and fights for the side of humanity in the war concerning the fate of the world. We first see him in volume one, where he gets into a fight with Kamui and, because of Kamui's volatile and uncaring attitude, refuses to believe that the boy could be the saviour of humanity. Their relationship is strained after that, though eventually softening to an awkward kind of friendship when they apologise for their past behaviour. In volume 12, Saiki is decapitated by Fuuma, as per a twisted interpretation of his wish to protect Hinoto (and thus die for her).

Why this Name?

The first word that springs to mind when I think of Saiki is 'earnest'. He genuinely cares about the fate of humanity, and gives his all in everything he tries. There's also a certain naivete and awkwardness to him, which is very endearing. The Importance of Being Earnest is a play by Oscar Wilde, and though the play itself doesn't really have anything to do with Saiki, the title phrase sums up exactly what I think of him. Saiki is not only earnest, but struggles with the deep sense of inadequacy of being an ordinary human (albeit a windmaster) in the company of the actual Seven Seals, who outstrip him merely by existing. However, everything happens for a reason, and Saiki is important in his own way.
